EVENTS IN GUBBIO

The Race of the Candles and the Tournament of the Balestra of Gubbio are traditions of great importance in the panorama of the regional events as well as under the point of view of the folklore or of strictly historic view.
Both events are organised without interruption from the last years of the XIIth century; each year, on May 15th, the streets of Gubbio are full of colours, hundreds of Gubbio inhabitants are leading the three Candles, each one weighting more than 4 quintals, during an exalting race from the city to the Basilica of St. Ubaldo, through the medieval streets and up the hill with a difference of level of more than 300 m.

Luminous decoration on the Ingino Mounts, at which feet is located the city, which draws through 800 luminous decorations a big Christmas Tree, 800 metres high and 400 metres large.
